Firmware update for your TurnPilot

All TurnPilot devices without an LED rotary ring can be updated to the latest version directly in the settings menu by tapping "Firmware Update".

Note for devices from before October 2026: Please send an email with your date of purchase to info@pilgrim.im. You will then receive instructions and the appropriate firmware for a one-time update via smartphone. Afterward, you can install all further updates directly in the settings menu.

This firmware is not suitable for TurnPilot models with an LED rotary ring.

More reliable saving of room settings, better cover loading, and improved track switching via swipe gestures.

• Room settings are preserved: Fixed bugs where font color, cover view, and other display settings could be reset during operation or after a restart.
• Brightness for each room: Font and background brightness are saved separately for each room and restored when switching rooms.
• Reliable room recognition: Settings remain assigned to the respective speaker—even if the order is changed, rooms are renamed, or speakers are temporarily unreachable.
• Improved cover display: Retrieving album, playlist, and station images uses additional available image sources. Temporary loading errors are handled more effectively.
• Dedicated view for identified radio stations: If only a station image is available, the transmitted title and artist information appear permanently over the dimmed station image. Detection is intentionally conservative so that playlists with track covers retain their usual appearance.
• Improved track switching via swipe gesture: The command for the next or previous track is sent even if the music source provides incomplete or contradictory information regarding support. The misleading "Track change not possible" message has been removed. Whether the change can be executed still depends on the music source.
• Clearer group selection: "Create group" is positioned with spacing above the rooms and is styled in neutral gray. In the "Group" start mode, the existing Sonos group of the last selected room is opened by default.
• More pleasant default setting: For new devices, the preset background brightness is 22%. Already saved brightness values remain unchanged.

Easier setup via Sonos account, updates directly on the device, and clearer operation.

• Setup via phone and QR code: Select home Wi-Fi, enter password, and authorize the TurnPilot with the Sonos account via QR code. Rooms, favorites, and playlists are detected automatically; manual entry of speaker IP addresses is no longer required.
• One-click firmware updates: Start updates directly in the TurnPilot menu—no phone required. Requires at least 30% battery or a USB power supply.
• Switch Sonos account: The login can be reset via "Disconnect Sonos account". Saved Wi-Fi data is retained.
• Clearer menus: Clearly recognizable button frames, larger touch areas, and a dedicated firmware page. "Create group" is highlighted in green above the room list.
• Personalize music selection: Set sorting, grouping by content type, and "Recently played"—accessible by swiping twice from bottom to top.
• Faster access to sound settings: Swiping twice from top to bottom opens sound settings. In groups, the desired room is selected first. Supported devices offer multi-level speech enhancement.
• Smoother cover changes: Covers are cached and reused. After swiping away, the old cover does not reappear; unnecessary brightening during changes has been reduced.
• Stabilized control and playlist start: Improved touch control, volume control, Sonos connection, and favorites launch. The pause button appears directly upon tapping; start and error messages are displayed discreetly.
• Energy saving corrected: Fixed a bug when entering sleep mode that could cause unnecessary power consumption.

Major operation update: modern cover view, intuitive swipe gestures, and faster response.

• New cover view: Available album covers appear large on the round touch display. Alternatively, a clear title view is available. The preferred view is saved separately for each room. Cover view is preset for new or reset devices; existing settings are maintained.
• Swipe to change tracks easily: From right to left for the next track, from left to right for the previous—provided the music source supports this. Covers and titles move visibly with the swipe. While the next track is loading, the current display is dimmed.
• Tap for information and control: Tapping in cover view displays title, artist, room or group, and playback controls. During playback, the controls then fade out gently into the background.
• Faster response to inputs: Play/pause, shuffle, and repeat react more quickly. Unnecessary pre-checks and fixed waiting times have been reduced. Additional success checks are performed after the command; in case of errors, the status is reconciled.
• Start favorites and playlists faster: The start sequence has been streamlined. A short, centered overlay replaces the previous intermediate menu. Playback is then verified in the background.
• Faster device startup: Shorter logo animation and less wait time for the first cover. Wi-Fi connection and initial Sonos queries run in parallel to the startup animation. A slow image retrieval no longer unnecessarily delays operation.
• Menus via swipe gesture: Bottom-to-top opens music selection as well as playback and sound options. Top-to-bottom opens rooms and device settings. Swiping sideways switches between clear cards; dots indicate additional pages.
• Unified music selection: Sonos favorites, radio stations, albums, and saved playlists can be selected in a unified tile view. Duplicate names are hidden. If no playable source is available, Play opens the music selection.
• Group volume overview: Rotating displays the volume overview with "All rooms" and individual group rooms. This allows the group to be controlled together or a selected room separately. Groups with up to three rooms are managed via room selection; individual rooms can be specifically removed.
• Adjust sound directly on the rotary ring: Available sound values are listed one below the other on a common card. Tap a value and adjust by turning. Depending on the Sonos system, subwoofer, surround, night mode, and speech enhancement are also available.
• Separate settings for auto-dimming and energy saving: Separate settings for battery and USB operation. Auto-dimming is active by default in battery mode after 120 seconds and switched off when using USB power.
• Better cover loading and reuse: Image retrieval and handling of slow or faulty responses have been improved. If a playlist's preview image is missing after starting on the TurnPilot, a successfully loaded track cover can be saved as a replacement preview. Up to 24 preview images remain in RAM and can be reused the next time the music selection is opened. This cache is rebuilt after a restart.
• Improved stability and readability: Fixes for TV mode, volume control, group control, and scrolling through favorites. Larger touch areas, revised texts, and fewer unnecessary screen refreshes improve operation.

The availability of covers, track changes, and sound settings depends on the music source and the Sonos system. A saved replacement preview may show a track cover from the playlist and does not have to match the original playlist image in the Sonos app.
